Portland, Maine (December 17, 2008)Oakhurst Dairy is pleased to announce that Shelley Girdner of Dover, NH was selected as one of the winners of the 2008 Living Healthy Shopping Tour.  Ms. Girdner won a $100 gift card to a local supermarket, in addition to a “Healthy Shopping 101” grocery store tour with Oakhurst Dairy Dietitian, Pamela Stuppy, MS, RD, LD.

As part of Oakhurst’s continued commitment to health, the Living Healthy Shopping Tour provides a valuable opportunity to go through the supermarket with an expert and learn how to better understand nutrition labels and what to look for to make better, healthier purchasing decisions.  As a mom of two young boys, Ms. Girdner had concerns about buying the right foods.

“I was surprised when I learned how easily my family and I could become deficient in Vitamin D – especially during the winter months living in New Hampshire,” said Girdner.  "Pam was very helpful in explaining the importance of Vitamin D and that milk is one of the few dietary sources for Vitamin D.  She also made me more aware of calcium levels and how to interpret labels.   I had a hunch about healthy food choices, but reviewing some nutritional labels with an expert was a nice confirmation that I am buying the right things for my family.”

“There are so many choices these days with manufacturers touting various health benefits which can be very intimidating when making decisions on what to buy,” said Stuppy.  “I believe Shelley will benefit from the tour now that she has a little more knowledge and confirmation to purchase the right items for her and her family.”

There will be one more opportunity to win The Living Healthy Shopping Tour in 2008. Entries must be submitted on or before December 31, 2008.  More information on how to enter for a chance to win a $100 supermarket gift card and one hour grocery store tour with Pam Stuppy is available at
