PORTLAND, Maine (December 2, 2008) — Oakhurst Dairy announced today that Melissa Alexander of Topsham, ME is the winner of the Vote Oakhurst Sweepstakes. As the winner, Ms. Alexander had the choice of $1,000 worth of gas, fuel or groceries and has chosen to cash in on the groceries. The winner’s name was chosen at random from over 10,000 entrants.  The sweepstakes ran in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts from October 10 – November 14, 2008.  Consumers were notified of the sweepstakes through print, radio and email advertisements, and on specially marked packages of Oakhurst milk.   All communications invited people to enter online at

The promotion marked the last stage of a 6-month campaign that reminded consumers selecting a milk brand to vote local, vote quality and vote Oakhurst. “The sweepstakes was Oakhurst’s way of thanking one lucky family for supporting Northern New England’s fastest selling milk brand during this election year and beyond,” said Stan Bennett, President of Oakhurst.

“Oakhurst is excited that Melissa was selected as our winner,” said Oakhurst Marketing Communications Manager, Linda Sheehy.  “We love that our winner is someone who has been drinking Oakhurst milk since she was a child and that Oakhurst could give back to a loyal consumer.”

“I decided to enter the sweepstakes when I saw a sticker on the gallon of Oakhurst Milk I had just bought,” said Mrs. Alexander.  “I thought the idea of voting for Oakhurst was clever because there was so much focus on the election this year. I feel good about purchasing Oakhurst products because they are a local company that makes a positive impact on the environment and cares about the community.”

Mrs. Alexander and her husband, Brian, are native Mainers having grown up in Brunswick. After moving to Southern California for a short time, the Alexanders moved back to Maine to be close to family and the place they always felt was home. According to Mrs. Alexander, “I have been drinking Oakhurst milk a long time, and I will continue to vote Oakhurst in the future by buying their products.”

Oakhurst is Northern New England’s largest independent dairy company, with three generations of commitment to the health and wellbeing of the community and the environment. For 87 years, the Bennett family has stood behind every glass of Oakhurst milk. The company contributes 10% of annual profits to organizations that promote healthy kids and a healthy environment –– another good reason to choose the Natural Goodness of Maine.
